Mrs. Jessica Byrum
Intermediate Science, Fourth Grade Homeroom
Dear Parents,
We are very excited about the upcoming school year, and are looking forward to working with your child. Once again this year our classes will be involved in planning and participating in a number of liturgies. You are invited to join us for any of these special celebrations.
As a parent, we know that you will join us in helping your child develop a behavior norm that is patterned after what Jesus taught—respect, responsibility, reliability, and compassion. Our procedures and expectations are listed in the following letter. Please review with your child and sign and return by the date stated in class.
CONSEQUENCES
1ST and 2nd consequence – verbal warning/ conduct strike
3rd consequence –demerit
3 demerits = 1 detention—Detentions will be served after school for ½ hour from 2:20-2:50p.m.
Students caught being good will earn verbal praises, stickers, homework passes, warm fuzzies, etc.
SEVERE DISRUPTION
Student will go directly to the principal.
In addition to the classroom discipline plan, there are some important classroom procedures which we would like to explain.
HOMEWORK
Homework is given daily. It is our suggestion that you and your child set up a routine time that your child does his/her homework. It may be right after school, after a snack/TV break or after dinner. It is the student’s responsibility to write his/her homework in their homework assignment book each day. Please sign the book each night indicating that you have reviewed their work. Please help your child become disciplined in the practice of neatness and promptness. If homework is forgotten, a student will receive a homework strike. If a student forgets homework a second time, a demerit will be issued.
**Any test or quiz with a grade below a C will require a parent signature and needs to be returned the next day corrected. A student can earn a higher grade for corrections.
MAKE-UP WORK
It is the student’s responsibility to make up work when they are absent. We will give them a list of missed assignments, but they are responsible to make them up and turn them in to the teacher.
ACCORDION
Important newsletters, notes and papers will be sent home often in the 8 pocket accordion or take home folder. Please review all papers that come home in the HOME pocket.
SUPPLIES
It is very important that each student is prepared at all times with their school supplies. Please have some wide-ruled paper on hand at home at all times. Also no gel pens or supply boxes are allowed. All fourth graders will use pencils in ALL subjects until January.
WEBSITE
Please remember to check our website for updates.
SOME IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Your child may bring in a light, healthy snack each day. Please do not send snacks with peanuts, peanut oil, or anything in the nut family. We do not have much time, so please keep the snack small. Please provide a napkin.
Birthday treats may be sent in to celebrate your child’s birthday (or half birthday). There are 27-30 children in the each class. Napkins and individually wrapped treats work best. Please do not send snacks that contain peanuts, peanut oil, or anything in the nut family.
Please provide a note when there is any change in transportation.
Any money sent to school should be placed in an envelope and labeled with your child’s name, room number and information about the contents.
A weekly newsletter will be sent home each Friday with important information for the week. Please remind your child to show you the letter. On this letter will be important information like test dates.
Scholastic Book Club offers a nice selection of books for the children to purchase. This is OPTIONAL for you to purchase the books. We like to offer this to parents as a way to get your child interested in reading. If you wish to order, please make the check payable to the book company, NOT St. Mary’s. No CASH please.
Please send a note with your child when they return from an illness.
No calls home for forgotten homework, clothing, lunches, etc. will be allowed. Parents are also not allowed to bring up forgotten supplies to school or homework to children.
Please feel free to contact us here at the school. We will return your call as soon as we can. Also please do not hesitate to email us if that is better for you.
We are looking forward to a very successful and enjoyable year with your child.
