Biography: Hello my name is Ms. Hawk and I am the seventh grade reading/english and eighth grade social studies teacher for the junior high here at Saint Mary of the Assumption. I am very excited to be here and have always wanted to teach here. In kindergarten I told my father I wanted to become a teacher, and my goal has never changed. I am a 2002 graduate of Mentor High School where I was involved in Future Leaders, Future Educators and Student Council. I graduated Mentor High with academic and community-service honors. My senior year I was involved in a program called Internship in Education where I went to school in the morning and worked as a teacher’s assistant at Hopkins Elementary School in the afternoon. I spent my senior project at Memorial Junior High with the seventh grade social studies teacher. In August of 2002, I begin my next four-year journey at Ursuline College. There I double majored in Middle Childhood Education with concentrations in Language Arts and Social Studies and History. My two main education professors at Ursuline were both former teacher’s at Saint Mary of the Assumption! While at Ursuline I was involved with Future Leader’s Retreat Team, Student Government Association, Campus Newsletter Editor, Founders Day Executive Committee, Ursuline College Chorale and was Treasurer of Residence Hall Council for two years. While attending Ursuline, I was back at Saint Mary observing Mrs. Bassett for a semester! I then student taught at Eastlake Middle School in the spring of 2006. Upon graduation, I was inducted in Kappa Gamma Pi National Honor’s Society and was awarded the Education Department’s Outstanding Senior Award given to one senior who demonstrates excellency in student teaching. This past summer, I finished my Reading Endorsement at Ursuline as well. In 1998, I began work at Saint Mary of the Assumption as a night-time assistant in the rectory. In 2003, I was promoted to assistant to the parish secretary which position I held until I graduated college and started teaching full-time. You can still see me in the rectory on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings though! My summers and weekends were spent working with people who had moderate to severe disabilities. Last school year, I taught at Saint Mel School in the Cleveland/Westpark Area. There I taught language arts to grades 6-8 and grade 6 reading, religion and art. While at Saint Mel I was advisor to Living Stations of the Cross, Student Council, the all-school retreat and directed the first junior high fairy tale play. In my free time, I love to read and spend time with those who I love. I have been in this parish for as long as I can remember. Throughout the years, I was an alter server, involved the in youth group, and currently serve as a Eucharistic Minister. Saint Mary holds a very special place in my heart and is my "second home." I hope to make this school year a great one and if you need anything please do not hesitate to call. Thank you and God Bless!
