  Biography:

Hello, my name is Debbie Hunt and this is my fifth year of teaching at St. Mary School.  I feel as though I have found my niche as the Intervention Specialist.  As a teacher who represents students with individual needs, I find it rewarding to identify each student’s strengths and to build his/her self-confidence.  I enjoy working with primary, intermediate, and junior high teachers to stay in touch with the progress of each one of my students and advocate for each as needed.

My interest in teaching stemmed from an art project I did in 1st grade.  I figured that if I was in charge of teaching, I could teach art projects all day long!  I graduated from Heidelberg College with a B.A. degree in elementary education.  My first teaching position was as a 3rd grade teacher in Perry Local Schools.  I taught there for six years, but then resigned to stay at home and raise our three daughters, Ellie-13, Laura-10, and Sarah-9.  During these years, I earned my M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction, Mild to Moderate Disabilities from Cleveland State University.  I am grateful that I could stay home to watch my daughters grow, but I am very happy at the place I am in now as well.

Even though my daughters keep me running, I sometimes get a moment to myself.  A new hobby of mine is Sudoku – maybe you do this too!  I also enjoy quilting, reading, and playing with my 2 Siamese cats: Bailey and Boomer.

My wish for everyone reading this is to have a successful school year and to pass on the love of reading to a child.
