Biography:

Hi! I’m Joy. This is my second year in the Learning Resource Center at St. Mary’s. I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri where I attended Epiphany of Our Lord elementary, Rosati-Kain high school and St. Louis University (catholic school education all the way!). My family and I have been parishioners at St. Mary’s for 25 years.

I worked at St. Louis University’s School of Medicine from June of 1972 through July of 1980 in many capacities. I started out as a secretary in the Department of Community Medicine, moved on to administrative assistant of that department and finally was the Educational Coordinator of the Department of Internal Medicine (all the while taking classes at the College of Arts & Sciences at SLU during the evening – it was a nice fringe benefit!). While working at the med school, I met and married my husband of 28 years, Rob. We have three kids, excuse me, young adults, who all attended St. Mary’s and Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin and then onto various different colleges and graduate schools (University of Dayton, The Ohio State University, St. Louis University, Case Western Reserve University School of Law and Roger Williams University School of Law).

I was very fortunate and blessed to be able to stay at home and raise my children; but I have always believed that when God has given you so much you have much to give back in return. So, I have volunteered my services in many areas over the years. I am a member and past president of the Lake County Medical Alliance as well as a member of the Ohio State Medical Association Alliance. I am currently a sustaining member of the Western Reserve Junior Service League where I participated in the CAPS Program for Laurelwood Hospital, Forbes House, renovation of the Mooreland Mansion and was a puppeteer who traveled throughout Lake County schools (private, catholic and public) taking live theatre to grade school children. I also spent many hours volunteering at St. Mary’s while my children were in school; from copying papers for teachers, attending field trips, being a Girl Scout leader, cheerleader coach and showing up whenever Mrs. Konicki gave me a call.

I love to read, swim and attend sporting events (I was NDCL’s Boys Varsity Soccer official scorekeeper for 7 years). I was also the Head cheerleading coach at NDCL from 1999 to 2005 – coaching the Varsity and Freshman squads and overseeing the JV program. Last, but not least I have been a camp manager for Americheer and I am a certified panel and penalty judge, who has judged at local, state, regional as well as national and international cheerleading competitions (I loved Disneyworld!).
