Biography:

My name is April Machione, and I am a Kindergarten Teacher at St. Mary’s of the Assumption School in Mentor, Ohio.

Let me tell you a little about myself…

I have lived in the area my whole life, my parents still reside in Willowick, Ohio. I am an only child and attended Catholic school as a child myself so I know the importance of a "Catholic Education". After I graduated from high school in 1983 I went into the working world with a degree in cosmetology, I enjoyed meeting lots of people but knew that I wanted more in my professional career. I became employed with Progressive Insurance as an Underwriter of Automobile Insurance and was employed with Progressive Insurance for 13 yrs. After I became a mother of two wonderful children I discovered that I had a "passion" for teaching and helping children so at the age of 30 I went to college for the 1st time in my life. (Talk about scary)! I attended Lakeland Community College and discovered I loved learning. After completing two years at Lakeland College I transferred to Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in the year of Dec.2000 and a teaching license PreK-3.

I began my teaching career as a Teaching Substitute with the Willoughby-Eastlake School District in Jan. 2001, was hired as a long term substitute in March of that year teaching Third Grade. I truly enjoyed "subbing" but longed for a classroom of my own. In August of 2001 I was hired for my current position as a Kindergarten Teacher for Full Day at St. Mary’s. I love my job and my children in my classroom. I feel truly blessed to be a part of many children’s 1st experience with school. I feel that if I can get each of my students to love to come to school each day, half my job is done…

In my personal life, I have two children, a boy and a girl who both attend a Catholic High School in the area. My children keep me very busy… I love to watch my son play baseball and my daughter play volleyball. In our spare time (which isn’t very much) we enjoy camping, playing board games and cards, traveling, and reading. I also enjoy cooking, scrap-booking, and playing with my 2 cats Oreo, and Cincy. We also just got a "Puggle" puppy named Champ.

I feel very lucky to be a part of the St. Mary’s community and family, and I welcome you to my classroom and our school!!
